Cleopatra VII ruled Egypt from 51 to 30 BCE, becoming the final monarch of the Ptolemaic dynasty before Egypt became a Roman province. Raised in Alexandria, she governed during a period of immense political pressure and used language, diplomacy, ceremony, and alliance to protect her kingdom.
