A NOTE FROM LYSSE

The Woods Remember Us took ten years of my life to complete. I wrote pieces of it wherever I could, even on the school bus, eating ramen noodles and holding tightly to a story I didn’t yet fully understand.

There were seasons of writer’s block when I wondered whether I would ever finish it. Still, something inside me refused to let the story go. I knew I had to complete it, even before I understood why.

The birch trees, my dreams, and my deep connection to ancient Egypt became part of the novel’s spiritual foundation. This book is profoundly dear to me. It is more than a story. It is something that kept calling me back until I finally brought it into the world.
